About Me

My photo
I have been a racing fan for nearly 30 years, first starting when my grandmother (who lived in Louisville, Kentucky) took me to the 100th running of the Kentucky Derby at historic Churchill Downs. But it has been in the last 20 years that my interest has turned more "serious" as a handicapper.

Day 4 Results: October 24

A "better" day, but still not what I was hoping for.  Got off to a solid start by winning the first race, paid $6.40, but it was a non-betting event.  I was robbed in my first investment race of the day.  I had Butler Cabin on the turf who was rallying outside of horses.  The frontrunner kept bearing farther and farther, and farther out.  My rider eventually had to steady, but by the time the wire came I was nearly to the outer fence.  This allowed one of my other selections, Clawer at 5/1 to get 2nd.  It came as little consolation that the winner was DQ'd, as I'd been carried so wide that I couldn't even hold 2nd.  I was 7/2 and would have earned over $20 for the win and been in the black for the day....sigh....

Then won my first double-up investment when She's A Babe was much the best in the 4th.

Thought I was home-free in the 7th, a triple investment....again, would have made a profitable Sunday.  But got nailed in the final yards by my second choice.....double sigh.....
In my last investment race, the finale, I thought I had a real shot at 17/1....was third heading for home, but faded to 5th through the stretch run.
